About the Spiral Years

The spiral studio was in a showman’s trailer stocked with the latest music making equipment of its time, pulled by an old UNIC truck that the crew had fallen in love with in France .
Later on I developed my own studio setup which lived at first in a box trailer and later in our Scania, in which we trekked around Europe with our family, the studio and Jeckle the dog.

Making music on the road wasn’t always easy as we relied on generator power. Powered by diesel which we syphoned it ran mostly in the evening to make advantage of electric lighting and only when we were parked in a suitable place. This suited me, as I often had to wait until my baby boy was sound asleep, with his father or one of the other girls who travelled with the tribe before I could start work.

Together with the music I made at the time, I‘ll recount a little about life in the studio and on the road with what was probably the best underground mobile sound system in the world.

The Spiral Years is dedicated to Michael McGarvie, Meltdown Mickey, Reno Exprèssillon and all my tribal brothers and sisters….

Michael my father, whos love of history and belief in the importance of accurately recording the past has motivated me to create the Spiral Years.
Mickey my partner on the road without whose excellent skills as a father and provider of mobile studios none of this would have been possible and Reno, a great friend who was taken from us too soon. Also thanks to Yann Sycomor for his excellent webmastery and Shane at Finyl Tweek for all mastering except for PM11 by Lukes Anger.
